Throughout the course you will develop your ability to understand, use and manipulate the language and will deepen and improve your spoken and written communication skills in a variety of contexts and for a variety of uses.
Throughout the course you will study four main themes. In Theme 1 you will learn about changes in German society—the role of and changes to family life, education and the word of work and gender equality. In Theme 2 you will study political and artistic culture in the German-speaking world including music, the media, festivals and traditions. Theme 3 looks at immigration and multi-cultural German society, and the advantages and challenges linked to immigration and the opportunities arising from it. In Theme 4 you will study an important period in German history.
In addition to this you will have the opportunity study a popular German film and a well-known and popular piece of German literature.

General college entry requirements plus a grade 5 or above in GCSE German.
Many students go on to study their chosen language at university, often combined with another course (Law, Business Studies, Maths, Politics, English etc.). With a language A-Level you will also have the choice to study any other language at degree level. Languages are seen as an invaluable skill by both universities and employers and create a wide range of opportunities in education, employment and elsewhere.
